I’m Heather Dickens — and yes, the name is intentional.

I’m a high school English teacher who came back to the classroom in January 2026, right as AI began rewriting what school can be. I’m documenting the whole adventure here — honestly, while it’s still messy.

I trained as a teacher in 1991 and left the classroom in 2004. The years away — raising my kids, eleven years working in hospice care, Real Estate, and an MBA in Ethical Leadership — gave me everything I now bring back to my students.

I’m not the AI expert in the room. I’m an experienced teacher figuring it out in real time, circling one question: not just should we use AI, but who do we want to be as we do?

I believe every person wants to learn, and that AI can finally give teachers room to make that a reality for every student every day. Notes from an English teacher building that future.
